  • Tavi Mac's Sister Wins on Debut

    Wednesday, 6th January 2021

Darci La Bella (Darci Brahma-Bellaroof, by Maroof) won her debut outing last Monday, and her trainer Allan Sharrock told racingnews.co.nz he plans to chase black type for the half-sibling to his Gr2 winner Tavi Mac (Tavistock). "They are both very talented individuals, but she definitely got the looks in the family," he quipped. "Neither of them are that big, but he's called Frodo for a reason whereas she is a beautiful filly to look at. I'll take her along quietly but if she does what I think she is capable of then a race like the Cambridge Breeders' Stakes (Gr3, 1200m) might be a target for her in the autumn." Their dam, Bellaroof, won on debut and went on to win five races and is a granddaughter of Listed winner Highden Belle. Meanwhile, Sharrock confirmed Tavi Mac will head to the Gr1 Telegraph Handicap over 1200m on January 16. "He's bounced back from his last run, put bodyweight on and worked on the course proper this morning (Monday) like a caged lion. He's got a massive job ahead of him to beat the mare (Avantage) but there was a Seabiscuit movie, so maybe there might be one about little Frodo."
