  • Too Much Weight Might Stop Beauden's Cup

    Thursday, 14th January 2021

Graeme and Debbie Rogerson-trained Beauden (Bullbars-Belle Femme, by Zeditave) may miss the Gr3 Wellington Cup later this month due to weight concerns, reports racingnews.co.nz. "I've been talking with Joan (Egan, owner) about where we go with him, whether we go to the Wellington Cup or go to weight-for-age racing at a mile and a quarter," said Graeme Rogerson. "Weight is her (Egan's) concern. He has been carrying weight so far so we will see how he goes. We will know what we are doing by the weekend. He just wasn't right in the spring, his blood wasn't right, so we turned him out and started again. It was as simple as that." Beauden has won his past two starts in the Taupo Cup over 2000m and the Listed Marton Cup over 2200m. In total, the 6YO gelding has ten wins and eleven placings from 33 starts. He wasn't offered at auction, and is out of Gr2 winner Belle Femme. His sire, Bullbars, won the Gr3 CS Hayes Stakes and placed at Gr1 level in the Australian Guineas. From small crops in New Zealand, he has 54 winners and two stakes winners, as well as five other group-placed winners.
