  • Samadoubt Aimed at Gr1 Canterbury Stakes

    Friday, 29th January 2021

Trainer Bjorn Baker will aim stable stalwart Samadoubt (Not a Single Doubt-Isadora, by Gold Fever) at the Gr1 Canterbury Stakes on March 6, after his easy trial win earlier this week, reported racingnsw.com.au. The 7YO hasn't raced since running fourth behind Happy Clapper (Teofilo-Busking, by Encosta de Lago) in the 2019 Gr3 Craven Plate. "He's had a long time off, you're getting out towards a year and a half, so I'm mindful of not going to the races underprepared," Baker said. "He didn't get out of his comfort zone and didn't have to be busted so it was as good a first trial we could hope for. He still looks like he has the zest for racing and he looked good doing it. I was thrilled to see him do that." Samadoubt has ten wins, including the 2019 Gr1 Winx Stakes, from 39 starts and earnings over $1million. Baker has several runners this Saturday at Rosehill including Frosty Rocks (Your Song-Virtual Velocity, by Galileo) who ran fourth in the Magic Millions Handicap at his last start. "He's an interesting runner off the back to back runs over 1800m in Queensland,'' he said. "I thought he ran well, particularly the first one, and they rode against him a bit in the second run. It's a drop in grade, he gets Tom Sherry back on and we won't change anything. He will lead and I think he is going to be strong over the 1500m without doubt."
