  • RWWA Partially Shuts WA Racing

    Tuesday, 2nd February 2021

The WA Government has advised that effective from 6pm, Sunday 31 January 2021, until 6pm, Friday 5 February, the Perth metropolitan area and the Peel and South West regions will enter a five-day lockdown, based on health advice. Following this announcement, a decision was made by Racing and Wagering Western Australia made to suspend all race meetings, trials and trackwork at licenced venues until Tuesday morning, 2 February 2021, pending further review. That decision immediately impacted Bunbury when the Sunday meeting was abandoned (including the Listed Breeders’ Stakes after just three races). Trainers located outside the lockdown regions will still be able to access racetracks within their respective areas for trackwork. This will allow sufficient time to ensure effective bio-security measures can be implemented to allow racing to continue safely. Further updates will be provided to industry participants regarding any requirements. The Health Department’s contact tracing team have pulled together a list of potential exposure sites of where this positive case has been in recent days, which can be viewed here. People who have been to these venues on these dates must attend a COVID clinic and get tested.
