  • Profitable Outcome in Inglis Millennium 2YO

    Monday, 8th February 2021

Outstanding juvenile Profiteer (Capitalist) announced himself arguably the best 2YO colt in the land with a dominant victory in Saturday's Inglis Millennium at Randwick. The $165,000 Classic Yearling Sale graduate bounded to the lead for jockey Hugh Bowman and never looked like surrendering, easing down for a stunning 5.25-length victory. The Millennium trifecta – Baranof (Hinchinbrook) finished second ahead of Pegasi (Star Turn) – were all sold at last year's Classic Sale, a fantastic advertisement for this year's auction which runs Sunday to Tuesday. In the process, Profiteer announced himself as the first genuinely worthy Golden Slipper rival to imperious filly Enthaar (Written Tycoon). Such was the dominance of his latest win, the TAB slashed his odds for the Golden Slipper from $13 into $5 second favourite behind homebred Enthaar ($4.50). Purchased by Roll The Dice Racing and Rogers Bloodstock from the Newgate Farm draft, the triumph effectively guaranteed Profiteer a start in the Slipper, with $69,500 of the prizemoney qualifying towards the ballot, the only restricted 2YO race to do so. Winning co-trainer trainer Mick Price knew how good Profiteer was pre-race but was still relieved to see him win as well as he did. "I've watched a lot of good 2YOs…and he's brilliant,'' Price said. "We've just got to win a Slipper now. You saw the horse, you saw how brilliant he was, he's clearly the best horse here so hopefully now he can do that again in a Slipper!'' Meanwhile, Enthaar's I Am Invincible half-brother (ex Final Agreement) is being offered at this year's Easter Yearling Sale as lot 305, by Emirates Park.
