  • Talindert Stakes a Future Pointer to Success

    Friday, 12th February 2021

Just over a week out from Caulfield’s feature juvenile race, the Gr1 Blue Diamond, some trainers are using Saturday’s Listed Talindert Stakes as a last-ditch attempt to gauge the quality of their juveniles and see if it is worth backing up a week later to chase for a share of the $1.5m in prizemoney. While the likes of Star Witness, Sleek Chassis and Miss Finland improved from their Talindert victories to take out the Blue Diamond at the next start, in recent years the likes of All Too Hard, Microphone and Ole Kirk have by-passed the Blue Diamond after their Talindert win with connections rewarded tenfold down the track with Group 1 success. Of the 12 acceptances for Saturday’s race, seven have already raced, of which five have won. Of the previous winning brigade, Godolphin’s Listed Maribyrnong Trial winner Ingratiating (Frosted) has the form on board, defeating General Beau on debut followed by successive seconds behind Finance Tycoon and Enthaar. One to keep an eye on could be the Hawkes Racing-trained Greaves (Stratum), with the Inglis Classic graduate set to make his debut in the race, just like All Too Hard and Ole Kirk had for the stable in previous years.
