Mega valuable now 6YO mare Monomoy Girl (Tapizar-Drumette, by Henny Hughes) has provided new owner Spendthrift Farm with immediate success by landing the Gr3 Bayakoa Stakes at Oaklawn. Purchased for a staggering US$9.5 million at the Fasig-Tipton November breeding stock sale, Gr1 Breeders' Cup Distaff winner Monomoy Girl was picking up from a 2020 racing season that saw her crowned Eclipse Champion Older Female following similar honours as a 3YO. The $1.20 favourite, Monomoy Girl, who boasts 14 wins and 2 placings from 16 starts – she missed her entire 2019 racing season – scored by 2-lengths from Our Super Freak (Mineshaft-Thatcher, by Giant's Causeway) and Finite (Munnings-Remit, by Tapit). It was an ominous return for the seven-time Grade 1 winner who is reportedly heading towards the Gr1 Apple Blossom in early April.
