Toeroek Back on Kemalpasa For Newmarket

COVID19 restrictions forced jockey Jake Toeroek to miss the Gr1 Oakleigh Plate ride on Kemalpasa (Magnus-Yarra Bank, by Bianconi), but he gets his chance in Saturday’s Gr1 Newmarket Handicap, reports racing.com. "Jake knows the horse really well. He was going to ride him in the Oakleigh Plate and unfortunately with the COVID flare up, he was unable to go, and Damian Lane filled in for him," co-trainer Richard Jolly said. "Jake is back aboard on Saturday and I'm really happy for him to be riding him. It's a good opportunity for him." Kemalpasa ran third in the Gr1 Oakleigh Plate behind Celebrity Queen (Redoute’s Choice-Celebrity Miss, by More Than Ready) at his last start. "He gave them all weight and he got really close at the end,” said Jolly. “We think he is definitely better suited this week. He's had four goes (at the straight) and only been beaten once. It's a terrific record and we know he goes well down there." Kemalpasa has won 11 of his 31 starts and nearly $900,000. He was a $140,000 purchase from the Kulani Park draft at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
