  • Godolphin Black Type Juveniles Out in Force

    Friday, 5th March 2021

On a gargantuan weekend of stakes races across Australia and New Zealand this weekend, Godolphin head-trainer James Cummings saddles up what must rank as one of the largest individual stable gatherings of black-type runners carrying the same silks in Australian racing history. The presence of the ‘blue army’ and its black type foot soldiers is so omnipresent that it ranks as the equal of fielding a full team of 18 in an AFL match, with half the team made up of 2YOs. Entering the Super Saturday weekend, Godolphin’s Ingratiating (24 points; Frosted) and Anamoe (19 points; Street Boss) are the two leading colts on the Australian 2YO Black Type Premiership Leaderboard, and the stable, which already also has Arcaded (Street Boss) and Zethus (Exceed and Excel) in the Top 25 will look to add further clout in the juvenile division. Each of Alegron (Teofilo), Micro (Medaglia d’Oro) and Paulele (Dawn Aproach) is entered for the Gr2 Sires’ Produce Stakes at Flemington, while Flit’s half-sister Sliders (Street Boss), Testimonial (Medaglia d’Oro), Triffacia (I Am Invincible) and Vianello (Teofilo) are carded for Royal Randwick’s Gr2 Reisling Stakes, and the afore-mentioned Gr1 Blue Diamond-placed Anamoe (see below) appears in the Gr2 Todman Stakes. Just for good measure, on Sunday in Canberra, Bacchanalia (Exceed and Excel) will fly the flag for Godolphin in the Gr3 Black Opal Stakes.
