  • 2021 Victorian Lady of Racing Award for Kah

    Tuesday, 9th March 2021

Leading jockey Jamie Kah was awarded the 2021 Victorian Wakeful Club Lady of Racing Award, reports racing.com. "To be named the Lady of Racing is amazing," Kah said in an interview with the Victoria Wakeful Club. "There are so many females out there doing so much for the racing industry and to be recognised as one of them is very special." The Lady of Racing was announced yesterday which was also International Women's Day, and the award recognises the achievements and contribution of women in the Thoroughbred breeding and racing industry. Kah is the current leader of the Victorian Jockey's Premiership and prior to yesterday's Adelaide Cup meeting, she had 970 career wins with four at Gr1 level. "My advice to young girls wanting to be jockeys and get into the industry is to just give it a go," Kah said. "It is an amazing job, not many jobs you can be 24-7 with horses and that is the reason why I got into it. I think you have to work really hard… it is a tough industry but once you do the hard yards and put the effort in it is so rewarding." Kah also paid tribute to fellow jockey Clare Lindop in her speech. "She was a real trailblazer for us female jockeys. She really paved the way and the expectations of female jockeys." The Lady of Racing was first awarded in 1993.
