  • Vandyke Pair Prepares for Winter Carnival

    Wednesday, 31st March 2021

Trainer David Vandyke has five runners for today's Doomben meeting and two of them will be hoping to prove their readiness for the Winter Carnival, reports racingqueensland.com.au. Both Skins (Sepoy-Ininthree, by Generous) and Amiche (Nicconi-Meerlust, by Johannesburg) will run in race six, the Derby Day 29 May Benchmark 78 Handicap over 1110m. "They're both quality horses who I'm hoping will be around for the winter carnival and be competitive," Vandyke said. "Either of them can win this race and they just need a bit of luck from their awkward draws. Skins has barrier trialled and is coming along nicely and should be hard to beat. Amiche won well first-up and loves a wet track which could be a big positive for her if we have a wet winter." Skins is resuming after last racing in October 2020, and has won three of his five starts and placed in the other two. Amiche is equally as consistent, having won four of her eight starts and placed in three others.
