  • Guineas Confidence Booster for Opperman

    Tuesday, 13th April 2021

Jockey Jacob Opperman picked up his first black type win when Royal Mile (Danerich-Street Blaze, by Street Sense) won the Listed Port Adelaide Guineas (1800m) on Saturday, reports racingsa.com.au. "It feels really good," Opperman said. "Especially to do it on this horse – I've ridden him his whole career. I was in a tight spot coming to the corner, but once we got clear he really nailed down." Opperman had an unusual beginning to his riding career when he won his first ever race ride at Mount Gambier last April, only to have the race determined a false start. This season, he has ridden 45.5 winners and is sixth on the South Australian jockey's premiership. Royal Mile has won four of his seven starts, and placed second in each of his other starts. He was a $26,000 purchase at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale from the draft of Wellington Park North, and now has promising earnings of $112,000.
