  • Gr1-winning Duo's Sibling Wins on Debut

    Friday, 30th April 2021

Purchased for $300,000 from the draft of Arrowfield Stud at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale, the Orbis Bloodstock raced 3YO Beaven Lane (Redoute's Choice-National Colour, by National Assembly), the full-brother to the South African raced Gr1 winners Rafeef and Mustaaqeem, produced an impressive 2.5-length victory when making his debut on Wednesday at Ballarat for Hawkes Racing. Jumping from the outside barrier, jockey Dean Holland allowed the gelding to travel forward before taking up the running, with the short priced favourite Bengal Bandit (Brazen Beau) from the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr stable settling nice in handy in third position. As the field turned into the home straight, Holland allowed the Beaven Lane more rein and he responded with ease, holding off the challengers to take a soft win. While he may have some way to go to replicate the form of his brothers on the track, kicking off his career in fine style indicates that ability is clearly there. While Beavan Lane is a gelding, if he can continue to step up to black type level, he will add some possible further value to the stud careers of his siblings, with Rafeef – his first crop runners include seven individual winners – a clear leader on the South African first season sires' table.
