Impressive last start length winner Cork Harbour (Snitzel-Maritimo, by Pins) will aim to continuing his winning ways when he travels to the Gold Coast Turf Club for the Gr3 Ken Russell Memorial Classic on Saturday, one of two in the race for the Chris Waller stable. Defeating the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Astrologer (Star Turn-Fast 'N' Witty, by Fastnet Rock) on April 21, with that runner-up coming out and breaking his maiden in fine style this week (see below), the form appears to be holding up. Secured by Tom Magnier for $475,000 from the Willow Park Stud draft at the 2020 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, the colt is one of a host purchased for a group of high-profile owners to chase black type riches with the intention of developing future stallion prospects, just like stable mate Ranch Hand (Fastnet Rock-Mezulla, by Shamardal), a recent barrier trial winner who sits as favourite for Saturday's race with James McDonald to ride. Currently second favourite, Cork Harbour will have the services of Brenton Avdulla, with the winning colt jumping away from gate 7 at the moment. One of two winners out of the Listed-winning, Gr3-placed Pins mare Maritimo, the colt is bred on the same Redoute's Choice x Pins pedigree cross as dual Gr1 winner Stratum Star.
