  • Five Out of Six Tip of Kah Iceberg

    Monday, 10th May 2021

Plenty has already been written about Jamie Kah’s momentous day at Caulfield on Saturday, where the silk-handed hoop secured five winners from six rides, including Generation, Excelman, Pintoff, Streetcar Stranger and Ayrton. As meritorious as her first career fiver in Melbourne was, bettering her quartet of winners on Cox Plate last year, Kah’s unstoppable surge towards a maiden Victorian Metropolitan Jockey title – she’s on 86 wins ahead of Damian Lane on 55 – doesn’t reveal two important underlying statistics. The first is her staggering 19.6 percent strike rate, well clear of WA sojourner William Pike (16.5), and Damian Lane & Ben Melham (both 15.1). The second is that Kah is currently runner-up on the live Australian Black Type Premiership table behind runaway leader James McDonald; her 388 BTP points earned include 39 from Group 1 wins aboard Mr Quickie, Nature Strip and Cascadian, putting her ahead of a lengthy list of household jockey names, and underlining why trainers are so keen to have her services. With over two-and-a-half months of the season left, Kah has a chance of eclipsing Brett Prebble’s twenty year record of 99.5 Melbourne winners achieved in the 1999-2000 season.
