  • Fresh Gytrash a Big Goodwood Threat

    Wednesday, 12th May 2021

Second 12 months prior behind Godolphin's Trekking (Street Cry), who lines up again in Saturday's Gr1 Doomben 10,000, the Gordon Richards-trained Gytrash (Lope De Vega-Miss Barley, by Fastnet Rock) will aim to capitalise on his excellent first up record when contesting the Gr1 Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville. Since his narrow loss last year, Gytrash has only been lightly raced with three runs under his belt, recording a third place in The Everest behind Classique Legend (Not A Single Doubt) and Bivouac (Exceed And Excel), sandwich between wins in both the Gr3 Concorde Stakes and $1m Yes Yes Yes Stakes. Out of the money just once in his 22 career starts, the sparingly raced 5YO gelding is likely to face a tough field including multiple Group 1 winner Behemoth (All Too Hard-Penny Banger, by Zedrich) who will be having his first start since third in the All-Star Mile, as well as the Hawkes Racing-trained Dirty Work (Written Tycoon-Maidel, by Ad Valorem) who is chasing a well-deserved Group 1 victory before retiring to Victoria's Spendthrift Farm for the upcoming breeding season. Outlining the depth of the Goodwood, the first seven home in the recent Gr1 TAB Classic for fillies and mares, headlined by winner Instant Celebrity (Not A Single Doubt-Celebrity Girl, by Starcraft), have also been nominated.
