  • Fiesta for Connections If Mare Claims Ortensia

    Thursday, 13th May 2021

The Chris Waller-trained Fiesta (I Am Invincible-Now Now, by Danehill Dancer), already successful at Group level on four occasions, with over $1.5m in earnings, will chase another stakes victory this Saturday when the Star Thoroughbreds-raced Group 1 performer carries 57kg in the Listed Kia Ora Stud Ortensia Stakes (1100m). With Tommy Berry to partner the mare from barrier 12, another positive run would see the popularity of the mare increase, as she will be offered as part of the Glenesk Thoroughbred draft (Lot 726) at the upcoming Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale. Set to play a part in the finish of a recent barrier trial before one of those in front came back on top of her, it has been four weeks since the mare last raced when finishing fifth in the Gr2 Sapphire Stakes at Randwick. With good pace in the race likely following the acceptance of the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Embracer (Sebring-Leone Chiara, by Lion Hunter), who loves to lead at speed, the Tommy Berry-ridden Fiesta can sit off the pace before charging home late.
