  • Socialist Primed for Stakes Success

    Friday, 21st May 2021

Second two starts back behind Xtremetime (Extreme Choice), who won the Listed Woodlands Stud Stakes at her next start, the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Socialist (Capitalist-Baby Corn, by Exceed And Excel) also went on to win at her next start, and this Saturday she steps up to stakes class in the Listed Carter Stakes (1200m) at Doomben. Having also been nominated for the juvenile contest at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, connections would be leaning towards a stakes race, and have already booked in Kerrin McEvoy to take the mount. Purchased by her trainers from the draft of Kitchwin Hills at the 2020 Magic Millions yearling sale for $130,000, Socialist who is one of 15 first crop winners to date by leading first season sire Capitalist (Written Tycoon), is out of the Listed-winning Exceed And Excel mare Baby Corn, whose six runners, all winners, are headlined by the multiple Gr1 performed Duporth (Red Ransom) gelding Cornrow. Baby Corn foaled a full brother to Socialist in the Spring and is currently in foal to Newgate Farm's Gr1 Doncaster Handicap winner Brutal (O'Reilly) in his first season at stud. The Chris Waller-trained Morioka (Maurice-Koonoomoo, by Dubleo) comes into the race off the back of a second to Socialist last start, and if there is any support for the Maher/Eustace trained filly, then the Star Thoroughbreds-raced Morioka should also be considered.
