  • Conners Chasing Oaks Win with Rebel Rama

    Thursday, 27th May 2021

Successful over 2000m at Rosehill last Saturday, the Marc Conners trained Rebel Rama (Dissident-Mossarama, by Mossman) looks likely to head to Queensland where she will chase black type in the Queensland Oaks. Post-race, Conners indicated that, "We were going to run her a fortnight ago, but we decided to just wait for this race. It seemed the right type of race for her and if she won, we would be entitled for her to go to Queensland and be a legitimate chance in the Oaks with her." With her first attempt at black type looking to be at Gr1 level, the three-year-old daughter of the Riverdene Stud based Horse of the Year Dissident (Sebring) has been in great form, recording two wins and a third from her last three starts. Chasing just his second Gr1 win as a trainer, Conners is likely to come up against the might of Chris Waller who is likely to have numerous runners targeting to the Oaks, with his brigade filling six of the top eight placings in last week's Gr2 The Roses at Doomben, a traditional lead up to the Oaks on June 5 over 2200m. Out of an unraced three-quarter-sister to Group 2 winner Staging (Success Express), who is in turn the dam of Group 1 winners Duporth (Red Ransom) and Excites (Danewin) as well as Group 2 winner Tickets (Redoute's Choice), it is a black type heavy pedigree and any further success for Rebal Rama will only increase her potential broodmare value.
