  • Second First Crop Winner for Kiss And Make Up

    Thursday, 27th May 2021

Having finished third on debut, the Garnett Taylor-trained Miss Mecca (Kiss And Make Up-Miss Elvee, by Elvstroem) broke her maiden at just her second career start, becoming the second first crop winner for her Gr2 Todman Stakes winning sire. Missing the start slightly from the jump, jockey Ryan Wiggins continued to urge his filly who settled in fifth position on the rail, before the home turn was reached and another effort was asked for. Once she found clear running on the outside of the field, she quickened impressively to chase down the leaders and pull away for a length and a quarter victory in the QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap (1100m) at Rockhampton. With two winners from 11 starters to date, Aquis' Kiss And Make Up (More Than Ready) was a high-quality juvenile, and is the only runner to defeat Champion 2YO Colt Capitalist (Written Tycoon) in his juvenile season. As a son of More Than Ready (Southern Halo), the progeny of Kiss And Make Up are likely to improve at three; just take a look at the progeny of More Than Ready sire-sons Sebring, Gimmethegreenlight, Daredevil and Perfectly Ready, whose stock have all improved as they have matured. Kiss And make Up covered 107 mares in his debut season.
