  • Boss Shares Wisdom with Next Generation

    Monday, 31st May 2021

Queensland-raised rider Glen Boss is paying back the guidance he earned from Shane Dye and Jimmy Cassidy to young riders Isabella Rabjones, Madeleine Wishart, Marnu Potgieter, and more. According to racingqueensland.com.au, the 51-year-old Australian rider speaks to the next generation of jockeys to give them the same valuable advice that he had. Early last week he went back to the Sunshine State to teach and gave a morning talk on fitness, safety, and riding. He recalled different stories from his Melbourne Cup heroics (aboard Makybe Diva) and looks back on how far the apprentice programs have come. “When I was young, it was self-taught and you would stumble along the way until you found something that worked for you,” Boss said. "The people back then, they did their best to teach you, but it is nothing like we have today. Nowadays, if you can get someone to impart that knowledge, you can speed up the process.” Open to fresh ideas, Boss was still interested in learning from the teenage apprentices, as he believes they are light years ahead of where he first started out due to being able to watch races all the time online.
