  • Widden Stud's Stratum Star Off the Mark

    Tuesday, 22nd June 2021

Prodigiously talented Stratum Star (Stratum-Purely Spectacular, by Pins) has sired his first winner. With four first crop juveniles having already placed this season it was only a matter of time until he could claim his first 2YO success. The victory came on Sunday at Coonamble when the filly Avalicious (ex Evert, by Belong To Me) scored by a comfortable 1.5-lengths over 1200m. Standing at Widden Stud for $8,800 in 2021, the son of Stratum had a celebrated race career, claiming the Gr1 Railway Stakes in Perth and Gr1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield. A Magic Millions Trophy winner, Stratum Star also placed in four other Group 1s: the Futurity Stakes, Memsie Stakes, Australian Guineas and Toorak Handicap en-route to earning almost $2.5 million on the track. Stratum Star is a half-brother to dual Group-winning juvenile Prague (Redoute’s Choice) who also placed in the Gr1 Champagne Stakes at two, and hails from a strong black-type family.
