  • All in The Family for Tofane

    Monday, 28th June 2021

Saturday’s Gr1 Tattersall’s Tiara heroine Tofane (Ocean Park) is not just an exceptional performer. Whilst her three Group 1 victories (All Aged-Stakes, Stradbroke Handicap and Tattersalls Tiara) combine to make her one of the most valuable broodmare prospects in the country, the addition of a lovely pedigree guarantees she’d fetch a king’s ransom were she ever to go through a sale’s ring. Tofane was bred by Curraghmore principal Gordon Cunningham in New Zealand, and later sold to clients of Ballymore Stables (Michael Moroney and Pam Gerrard). She is out of the Galileo mare Baggy Green, who Cunningham later sold to Kevin and Joanne Hickman of Valachi Downs. An impeccably bred daughter of the world’s highest rated stallion Galileo (Sadler’s Wells), Baggy Green is a three-quarter sister to Group 1 winners Funstar (Adelaide) and Youngstar (High Chaparral), bred by Bowness Stud. In addition to Tofane, she is also the dam of exciting stayer No Compromise (NZ) (Pins), winner of his two last Sydney starts for Chris Waller. Valachi Downs has a weanling full sister to Tofane by Ocean Park which is set to be retained by the operation – noted for retaining and racing all of their fillies.
