  • Corner Pocket Snookers Rivals Six Times

    Tuesday, 29th June 2021

Warrnambool-trained Corner Pocket (Toronado-Baize, by Commands) has taken the quote, If at first you don't succeed, try, try and try again, firmly to heart. The rising 5YO gelding, who didn't have his first start until a late season 3YO, placed in his first two efforts at Ballarat – both over 1000m. Since being stepped up to 1200m and consequently 1400m for his next 6 starts (three at each distance), the Lindsey Smith-trained runner has put together a perfect record. Three of the victories have come in the city, the latest last Saturday at Caulfield where the well-backed commodity had 2.25-lengths to spare at the line despite being pressured for the lead during the run. A $75,000 purchase consigned by Swettenham Stud which stands his shuttle sire Toronado (High Chaparral) at the 2017 Inglis Sydney Weanling Sale, Corner Pocket was subsequently resold for $175,000 at the 2018 Inglis Classic yearling Sale where he was purchased by Boomer Bloodstock and Lindsey Smith. Toronado has had a strong 2020-21 Black-Type season, earning 124 points from performances headed by Group 1 performers Masked Crusader and Senor Toba.
