  • New Galileo Stallion for Victoria

    Thursday, 22nd July 2021

Runner-up in the 2017 Gr1 Melbourne Cup off the back of a third placed finish in the Gr1 Caulfield Cup the start prior, the international elite-level performer Johannes Vermeer (Galileo-Inca Princess, by Holy Roman Emperor) has been retired to stud duties in Australia and will stand the upcoming breeding season at Cornwall Park Stud in Victoria. Successful at Gr1 level over 1400m at 2, Johannes Vermeer joins the Leneva Park based Royal Meeting (Invincible Spirit) as a winner of France's Gr1 Criterium International, a race won in the past by the likes of former Cornerstone Stud shuttler Dalakhani (Darshaan). Set to join an establish stallion line which interestingly includes Boom Time (Flying Spur) who defeated Johannes Vermeer in the Caulfield Cup, stud manager Peter Boyle has been enthused in the response for Johannes Vermeer since the farm announced their latest stallion acquisition. "Everyone keeps ringing, there has been a lot of interest," Cornwall Park's Peter Boyle told Racing.com. "The way things are going I think he could get 50 to 80 mares and that's just off the feel from the last couple of days since we announced him."
