  • Amasenus Adds to Strong Kitchwin Weekend

    Monday, 26th July 2021

On a weekend where there was little feature racing, NSW’s Kitchwin Hills had a hand in two of the three Australian black-type affairs. Picking up a handy 7 late season black-type points when their sales graduate Sansom (Charm Spirit) won the Gr3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield, the Hunter Valley farm was also in the headlines late Saturday afternoon when ultra-consistent mare Amesanus picked up a seventh win from her past eight starts. The daughter of ill-fated Kitchwin stallion Time For War (Snitzel) made a forgettable debut at Bunbury in February 2020, trailing home second last and beaten 10-lengths. That’s in sharp contrast to the exciting commodity trainer Simon Miller has on his hands now, with the rising 5YO powering home to defeat a smart field in the Listed Belmont Sprint (1200m) in Perth to add to her recent Listed Beaufine Stakes third. As a get-back type, Amasenus is never going to win by big margins but knows how to find the line, and Miller believes she can potentially go all the way to the top. He told thewest.com.au, “Her Bolton win capped remarkable improvement by the mare in her current campaign. If she keeps advancing, we’ll aim at the [Gr1] Winterbottom Stakes.”
