  • Maurice Continues Late Season Impact

    Monday, 26th July 2021

At Rosehill Gardens, the appropriately named Silent Impact (Maurice-Hollow Bullet, by Tayasu Tsuyoshi) remained undefeated to make it two from two on Saturday. Scoring by 1.8-lengths against a pretty vaunted field of late season 2YOs that included (unplaced King of Sparta and Military Expert), the son of 6-time Group 1-winning champion Maurice (Screen Hero) had won his debut over 1000m by 2-lengths but was still allowed to go off at $8 on the tote for trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott despite being a half-brother to Group 3 winner Reloaded (Snitzel). Choicely-bred – he is out of dual Group 1-winning mare Hollow Bullet (herself by a Japanese-bred son of Sunday Silence) – Silent Impact’s step up to 1200m produced an ultimately soft victory suggestive of a potentially exciting 3YO next season over longer journeys. It also franked Arrowfield Stud’s decision to bring Maurice back for the upcoming 2021 breeding season where he will stand for $44,000. From his first crop of Australian 2YOs, including 4 runners for 4 winners this month, he boasts an exceptional 6 individual black-type performers: Mazu, Maurice’s Medad, Balmaurice, Invisible Tears, Morioka and Port Louis.
