  • Wonderful Tonight Arc Path Plotted

    Tuesday, 3rd August 2021

After her absence from the recent Gr1 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on account of the fast ground, trainer David Menuisier’s star 4YO mare Wonderful Tonight (Le Havre-Salvation, by Montjeu) maintained her winning streak at Glorious Goodwood over the weekend when scoring a comfortable win in the Gr2 Lillie Langtry According to racingtv.com, Menuisier said: “Wonderful Tonight won a Group 1 over a mile and six furlongs last year and she is a lot stronger this year. [Jockey] William [Buick] came back in and said, ‘Please don’t run her over a mile and six furlongs again’.” Despite the distance being as far as she appears to want, the high-profile stable matron will probably run in the Yorkshire Oaks or at Deauville and then she will go for the Vermeille or the Arc – perhaps even both. Owned by music tycoon Christopher Wright, the talented mare was beaten a couple of lengths in 2020’s Vermeille because of the pretty fast ground last year, but hopefully she’ll get conditions to suit in 2021 when crossing the English Channel. Wright confirmed, “That is the tentative schedule – the Yorkshire Oaks or the Prix Pomone, primarily ground dependent rather than competition dependent… And then possibly the Prix Vermeille and then the Arc.”
