  • Spendthrift Sires in Demand at Saratoga

    Thursday, 12th August 2021

A new high price for Spendthrift Farm's Into Mischief (Harlan's Holiday-Leslie's Lady, by Tricky Creek) was set at The Saratoga Sale when Lot 168 sold for US$2.6 million to the bid of Coolmore, reports bloodhorse.com. "He's a very nice horse and he's one we've been talking about for the last couple days," said Tom Magnier about the colt who is out of Gr1 winner Paolo Queen (Flatter-Kadira, by Kafwain). Spendthrift also stands first season sire Bolt d'Oro (Medaglia d'Oro-Globe Trot, by AP Indy) whose colt from Lotta Kim (Roar-Kim's Blues, by Cure the Blues) was the third highest priced yearling at US$1.4 million. The blue-blooded colt is a thus a three-quarter to Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra (Medaglia d'Oro) being by a son of her sire. "He's a special horse, special opportunity. Obviously no guarantees," said purchaser Larry Best. "The horse is just beautiful. Look at the page with Rachel Alexandra on it. Frankly, it's 90% physical. However, I love Medaglia d'Oro and Bolt d'Oro is close. The page looked good, and it's clearly the standout in the sale. Somebody may pay more for a horse, and they already have, but this horse will need a little time."
