Even a cursory glance at the weekend’s Black Type races in Australia is a signal that it’s very early days for the new season. While the tight distance spread over 1100m to 1400m is expected, with just seven stakes races carded, what makes little to no sense is the decision by racing authorities across Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia to jam four of them into a 40 minute period. With plenty of high-profile gallopers like Behemoth (All Too Hard), Dalasan (Dalakhani), Ingratiating (Frosted), Away Game (Snitzel), Superstorm (Sebring), Best of Days (Azamour) and Tiger of Malay (Extreme Choice) making their seasonal returns on the east coast, at Belmont Park in Perth narrowly-defeated Gr1 Newmarket Handicap runner-up Indian Pacific (Zoustar) takes baby steps ahead of what could be a big spring and summer.
