  • First Foals for Riverbank's Prince Of Caviar

    Wednesday, 25th August 2021

Riverbank Farm in Benalla has welcomed the first foals by blueblood Prince of Caviar (Sebring-Black Caviar, by Bel Esprit), reports racing.com. "We've got two on the ground and they'd be 10 days old," said Riverbank Farm's Russell Osborne. "They are both out of maiden mares and nice, small and compact ones and I can't fault them. We're very excited and happy with his first year and I think this year he will go even better again." Prince of Caviar won a maiden race over 1300m from six starts and ran second on three occasions. "The good thing about it is the ownership group have supported the horse really well," Osborne revealed. "They got a syndicate together and brought mares and pretty exciting to be involved in their venture they are going down with him. Because we breed to race and they realised their horse wasn't commercial enough because he hasn't done enough on the track, they elected to go down the path of coming to us. I don't think anyone is coming to us to is expecting to get a Group 1 horse, they just want a nice horse that pays its way in the country and if gets to a Benchmark 70 levels and wins a half dozen races, that's great." Black Caviar has now had four foals to race for three winners, including recent winner Invincible Caviar (I Am Invincible). Prince of Caviar stands at Riverbank Farm for $4,400. "You go down the Black Caviar line and if he [Prince of Caviar] had got to his full potential in his racing career, he wouldn't be standing here," said Osborne. "He's still got the same bloodlines whether he made a career or not, so for the lower end of the scale they aren't going to get this opportunity again. What Black Caviar has gone and done on the racetrack, you've only got to get a tenth of that and you've got yourself a handy country horse."
