  • Mars on a Debut Mission at Sandown

    Wednesday, 25th August 2021

Newgate Farm stallion Deep Field (Northern Meteor) has made a rapid-fire start to the new season, boasting 24 progeny wins from 24 days, and on Wednesday he could have another. Well-pedigreed 3YO colt Mars Mission (Deep Fields-Roulettes, by Flying Spur) is carded to have his first start for Team Hawkes in a 1200m maiden at Sandown-Lakeside in Melbourne. Despite no exposed trial form, he is believed to be well forward for his opening race where he is on the second line of betting with Godolphin’s debut runner-up Vilana (Hallowed Crown) who is a half-brother to Group 1 winner Savatiano (Street Cry). Purchased for $800,000 at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Attunga Stud, Mars Mission is raced by an ownership group headed by renowned yearling judge Alan Bell and Vinery Stud. The strongly-pedigreed colt is a half-brother to Group 3 winner Sun City (Zoustar) who stands at Telemon Thoroughbreds in Queensland, stakes-winning Adelaide filly Parlophone (I Am Invincible), and her full-sibling, Spin – Star of Jupiter, who raced in Singapore after recording multiple Group placings in Australia. Dam, Roulettes, is a half-sister to Group 1-placed dual Group winner Royal Discretion (Royal Academy) as well as a full-sister to the dam of multiple Group-placed stakes winner Vezalay.
