  • Gytrash's Trainer Is Moving to Sydney

    Monday, 30th August 2021

There are likely to be few concerns for Gordon Richards about training one of the best-performing sprinters in Australia, Gytrash (Lope de Vega-Miss Barley, by Fastnet Rock), who continues to prepare for his second crack at the $15m The Everest. Due to the pandemic, Richards has had to follow the early stages of his star's spring training from afar. In his absence, Clare Cunningham has been looking after the consistent son of successful international stallion Lope De Vega. “We've sort of left leaving [South Australia] as long as we can because when we get there we are going to need to stay the whole time,” Richards said .“The guy who has been riding him in most of his work, Josh Evans, has been doing a lot of the work until I get there and he’s been fantastic.” However, Richards still hopes to arrive in time to see his Group 1-winning racehorse trial this week. According to racenet.com.au, Richards plans to wait until Thursday’s Randwick trials to unleash the talented sprinter. “If we trial him on Thursday, Jason can ride him because he can’t [ride] at Warwick Farm,” Richards said. “We put him in on Monday but then they put in a second set of trials on Thursday at Randwick so that will be the better option.” The Gr2 Shorts is run on September 18 at Randwick, while The Everest is a month later on October 16, where Gytrash is a $15 chance in most markets for The Everest despite running a slashing third last year.
