  • Journalism Chasing Unbeaten Run

    Wednesday, 1st September 2021

Impressive when winning on debut on August 10 at Hawkesbury, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained 3YO colt Journalism (I Am Invincible-Amanpour, by Northern Meteor) lines up for his second race start, aiming to keep his unbeaten record intact when he contests Wednesday’s Heineken Handicap (1150m) on the Kensington circuit at Randwick. Purchased from the draft of Rosemont Stud, who retained part-ownership, for $1 million at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale by his trainers, the well-bred colt is the second foal of the Gr1 winner Amanpour (Norther Meteor), who was also trained by Waterhouse, before being purchased by Rosemont Stud as a broodmare prospect for $1.15m at the 2015 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale. With a nomination to the Gr1 Golden Rose on September 25, the colt still has a way to go to prove himself against the elite of the age group, but if he can remain unbeaten, he is sure to step up in class at his next start. Set to jump away from gate 4, the race favourite Flying Crazy (Flying Artie-Forever Crazy, by Encosta de Lago) is to his outside and with a win and a third from his two starts to date, the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou trained gelding looks hard to beat. Originally with two acceptances, trainer Chris Waller will rely on just Best Side (Not a Single Doubt-Celebrity Appeal, by One Cool Cat) after scratching stablemate Cork Harbour (Snitzel), and the James McDonald-ridden colt should be watched after resuming for his second campaign, especially off the back of two pleasing barrier trail efforts.
