  • Stanley Lives Up to Famous Surname

    Wednesday, 3rd February 2021

American-Welsh explorer Henry Morton Stanley was famous for traipsing the length and breadth of central Africa, and his quip upon meeting fellow explorer David Livingston: "Dr Livingston, I presume?" Although he is yet to reveal any similar meetings, Queensland jockey Brent Stanley has spent the past week covering a great many miles throughout the north-eastern state in pursuit of a ride or two. In fact, reports racingqueensland.com.au, Stanley achieved the incredible feat of 50 rides in eight days, made all the more remarkable given he travelled to seven different race meetings as far afield as Cairns and Beaudesert – some 1,700km from each other. A tidy 9 wins and 5 placings made the great trek worthwhile for the Brisbane-based hoop who is sought-out by trainers in regional racing centres. Stanley now boasts 74 wins for the season, a mark that puts him, deservedly, on top of the Queensland Jockey's premiership and fourth in Australia.
