  • Top Japanese 2YOs of 2020 Named

    Thursday, 4th February 2021

The Japan Racing Association (JRA) has named Danon the Kid (Just a Way-Epic Love, by Dansili) and Sodashi (Kurofune-Buchiko, by King Kamehameha) as their top 2YO colt and filly respectively, reported bloodhorse.com. Danon the Kid's top rating of 116 is the second highest for a 2YO in Japan, and is one pound less than the 117 given to Danon Premium (Deep Impact-Indiana Gal, by Intikhab) in 2017. Danon the Kid won all his three starts in 2020, including the Gr1 Nakayama Hopeful Stakes. Bred by Northern Farm, Danon the Kid (see below) was purchased by Masahiro Noda of Danox Co. at the foal session of the 2018 Japan Racing Horse Association Select Sale for ¥100 million. Sodashi was given a rating of 113 to make her the highest rated 2YO in Japan, in a season where she won all four of her starts including the Gr1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies.
