  • Samizdat Campaign Firmly on Track

    Wednesday, 17th February 2021

Co-trainer Michael Gangemi is confident Samizdat (Not A Single Doubt-Sambar, by More Than Ready) can continue his campaign in a blaze of glory ahead of an interstate campaign, reports rwwa.com.au. Samizdat will look to add Sunday’s Pinjarra Classic (1300m) and next month’s Bunbury Stakes (1400m) to his previous victory in the Scenic Blast Stakes (1200m) where the classy chestnut charged home to defeat Flirtini (Artie Schiller) by a short half-head, albeit aided by a gulf in the weights. It was his first victory and second feature race success since claiming the Gr3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m). With three runs under his belt this preparation, Gangemi couldn’t be happier with Samizdat’s condition and expects the 5YO to run well in the Pinjarra Classic. “I wish this race was tomorrow because he is going so well,” Gangemi told The Races WA. “This is the second of three races we have targeted and he is ready to explode. The step up in distances from 1200m to 1300m and 1400m will suit him.” With a view to travelling the gelding east to Melbourne, Gangemi commented, “There are a number of races for him [in Melbourne] and the softer tracks will suit. That’s the plan, but there is plenty of water to go under the bridge yet.”
