  • Jamaea Outside Chance for Trainer Price

    Friday, 26th February 2021

Trainer Robert Price hasn't had a city-winning 2YO since 1997, but he told racingnsw.com.au that his filly Jamaea (Headwater-Isibaeva, by Johannesburg) is one out of the box. "They (a good 2YO) do everything straight away, you jump them out of the gates and they jump out, you ask them to gallop [and] they gallop," Price said. "They are hard to find. This filly isn't a big filly though she's unassuming because she's 454kg but when you look at her you think she's not that big. But there's a bit of substance to her. She's been resilient and we've had no trouble with her, everything we've pointed her at she's done. I think she's pretty special." After winning on debut, Jamaea ran second in the Listed Lonhro Plate behind Tilianam (Savabeel-Spending, by Pins). Jamaea will run in Saturday's Gr2 Sweet Embrace Stakes and will head to the Gr1 Golden Slipper if she wins. "The last 2YO race I won on a Saturday in Sydney was Red Ivory, she turned out to be a pretty good mare," Price said. "That's a long time ago. We train no different to the rest of them and you just need a bit of luck. Numbers is how you find horses, we don't have enough young ones come through the stables." Jamaea's dam won eleven races including the Gr3 Bow Mistress Trophy over 1200m, and Jamaea is her third foal. She was a $130,000 purchase from the Cressfield draft at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
