  • Sixth Winner for Capitalist

    Friday, 26th February 2021

Always looking like a 2YO, having won his first barrier trial in September by 5-lengths, it has taken the Snowden Racing-trained Kalashnikov (Capitalist-Rough Ride, by Flying Spur) until his fourth start to break his maiden, becoming the sixth individual winner for his sire Capitalist. Racing in the James Harron Bloodstock silks made famous by his sire, the Jason Collet-ridden colt went forward from a mid-line barrier draw to settle in fourth position before making his run early to chase the well-supported debutant Double Ex (Exosphere) who had showed good speed to high tail it out in front. Hitting the lead after rounding the Gosford home turn, Kalashnikov still had a battle on his hands as he needed to hold off the late charge of runner up Raoul (Kermadec) for Godolphin and Rachel King, winning by just under half a length on the line. Purchased by Harron from the draft of Segenhoe Stud for $600,000 at the 2020 Magic Millions yearling sale, the same vendor will offer a half-sister by Arrowfield Stud's Shalaa (Invincible Spirit) at the upcoming Inglis Easter yearling sale as Lot 54. Out of the Flying Spur half-sister to Gr1 winner Eagle Way (More Than Ready) and fellow stakes-winners Assertive Eagle (Danewin), Impressive Eagle (Rubiton) and Soaressa (Twining), both Kalashnikov and Lot 54 are bred on a very similar I Am Invincible x Flying Spur cross to that of recent Gr2 Silver Stakes winner Home Affairs (I Am Invincible-Miss Interiors, by Flying Spur).
