Scarlet Dreaming of Sunline Stakes

Chasing her first black type win, the Hawkes Racing-trained Scarlet Dream (Sebring-Asylum Seeker, by Count Dubois) looks to improve on a first up third in the Gr3 Matron Stakes (1600m) at Flemington when she tackles the Gr2 Sunline Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday night. In the top four in eight black type races including the Gr1 Australian Oaks where she finished second to Verry Elleegant (Zed), the now 5YO mare has only won on two occasions, but her consistency has rewarded connections with over $400,000 in earnings. A graduate of Widden Stud's 2017 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale draft when knocked down to World Wide Bloodstock for $95,000, the mare is out the South African-bred and raced Asylum Seeker, a winner of Greyville's Gr1 Golden Slipper before being exported to Australia for her breeding career, so a stakes victory to her credit will see her broodmare value soar. Only eight acceptances have been taken for the race on Friday night with Scarlet Dream currently favourite, just ahead of Quantum Mechanic (Deep Field-Life In Metro, by Fastnet Rock), who finished just ahead of Scarlet Dream when second last time out.
