  • Kingstar Farm Foal Stars in Golden Slipper Romp

    Monday, 29th March 2021

One of the country’s most exciting juveniles, and now a guaranteed stallion-in-waiting, has won the $3.5 million Golden Slipper Stakes in contemptuous fashion. The colt Stay Inside (Extreme Choice-Nothin Leica Storm, by Anabaa) scored a runaway win after drifting in the market due to sustained support for favourite Profiteer (Capitalist-Athena Lass, by Snitzel) who capitulated late to miss the placings after setting a hot tempo up front. The winner was perfectly positioned to pounce and gave nothing else a chance when claiming a 1.75-length over Godolphin pair Anamoe (New Approach) and Ingratiating (Frosted) who had done likewise in the Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes. The victory was a Golden Slipper first for trainers Richard and Michael Freedman, and a third for jockey Tommy Berry. Stay Inside’s sire Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt-Extremely, by Hussonet), a Gr1 Blue Diamond and Gr1 AJ Moir Stakes winner, is now the sire of a Golden Slipper winner (and sire of 3 individual stakes-winners) from just his first crop. "To come away with the winner, I'm almost speechless”, said co-trainer Michael Freedman. “My staff at Randwick who look after all these young horses do such an amazing job. They've been up since 3 o'clock to get these horses ready." Stay Inside continued a remarkable trend for colts sold at auction to win a Golden Slipper. Nine of them have done it this millennium – all nine sold at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale. Stay Inside was bred by Matthew Sandblom's Kingstar Farm from one of the young farm’s first crops, and sold for $60,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale. The colt was then prepared by the Newgate Farm team for the 2020 Gold Coast Yearling Sale where trainers Richard and Michael Freedman teamed up with Rick Connolly to secure him for $200,000.
