  • Professional Lightsaber Ready for Sires

    Friday, 9th April 2021

Jockey Luke Nolen believes the key to winning the Gr1 ATC Sires' Produce Stakes at Randwick on Saturday is the professional attitude shown by Lightsaber (Zoustar-Dream Cirque, by Dream Ahead), reports racing.com. "He makes his own luck," Nolen said. "From the soft draw (barrier three) he is probably going to do that again (race on the pace) all things going to plan. He's a very straightforward horse, what you see is what you get. He's very honest, genuine and keeps running well. He's a real racehorse." A last start winner of the Gr2 VRC Sires' Produce, Lightsaber has won three of his four starts and placed second in the other. "From the 1400-metre start at Randwick (of the ATC Sires' Produce), there's no sharp corners at any stage, it's going to be much the same as racing at home (in Victoria) except when you turn for home you'll be doing it right-handed instead of left-handed," said Nolen who rode Lightsaber in a track gallop at Pakenham on Tuesday. "The turns at Randwick are pretty gentle and it's a well cambered course. It's not as brutal as the Golden Slipper when you're flying into that first corner and it's a hard right and then you ask them to straighten and then turn again. Lightsaber is a very easy horse to do anything with, he just takes everything in his stride. Those sorts of horses give themselves every opportunity to win and develop into better horses." Lightsaber was sold by Aquis Farm at the 2020 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale for $80,000 to JCS Racing and now has earnings over $239,000.
