  • Tiger Of Malay Kicks off Queensland Campaign

    Friday, 14th May 2021

Successful on his juvenile debut, winning the Kirkham Plate, the Richard and Michael Freedman-trained Tiger Of Malay (Extreme Choice-Sambar, by More Than Ready) raced against some of the best juveniles of the season, and this Saturday he commences his Brisbane Winter campaign where he looks more than capable of giving his Newgate Farm-based sire another stakes winner. Romping home by almost 4-lengths in a recent barrier trial with Nash Rawiller in the saddle, the pair are one of 13 final acceptances for the Gr2 Spirit of Boom Classic (1200m) at Doomben. Won in the past by the likes of Rothfire (Rothesay), Dubious (Not A Single Doubt), Zousain (Zoustar), Winning Rupert (Written Tycoon) and Brazen Beau (I Am Invincible), Tiger Of Mallay has unfortunately drawn wide in barrier 11, but with the unbeaten Victorian filly See You In The Spring (Siyouni-Spring Colours, by Shamardal) engaged in the $250,000 race, there is sure to be plenty of speed on which should assist Tiger Of Malay find a position in the run. Kacy Fogden's Maotai (Not A Single Doubt-Fascination, by Elusive City) could highlight himself as a smart colt if he can continue on his winning ways after a 5-plus length debut victory, while it would be an omen selection if the Robert Heathcote-trained Prince Of Boom (Spirit of Boom-Dazzling Display, by Red Dazzler) could take the prize with the race named after his Group 1-winning sire.
