Early last night, the TAB showed its hand for The Everest. The sponsor of the world’s richest race on turf, Sydney’s popular 1200m sprint that is worth an astronomical $15 million this year, will be represented by lightly raced 4YO gelding Lost and Running (Per Incanto-Dreamlife, by Danroad). Tapped as the best sprinter trained by John O’Shea, Lost and Running has only had 7 starts but boasts 6 wins and a runner-up. Purchased for what now seems a paltry $40,000 at the 2018 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale, the son of New Zealand shuttler Per Incato (Street Cry) becomes just the fourth confirmed 2021 The Everest runner, following Nature Strip (Nicconi) and Masked Crusader (Toronado), with defending champion Classique Legend (Not A Single Doubt) back in training with Les Bridge and expected to represent owner Hong Kong’s Bon Ho for his slot. Lost And Running looked a class above when winning the Listed Luskin Star Stakes at Rosehill during May, a race that appears from limited history to be a good guide for The Everest. According to thechronicle.com.au, Adam Rytenskild, Tabcorp Managing Director Wagering and Media, said: “We are delighted to have secured the services of Australia’s most exciting sprinter (Lost And Running) for what has rapidly risen to become the world’s richest and most competitive sprint race. TAB is proud to have been associated with the Everest since the first running and think we have secured the right horse to win it.” Rytenskild enthused, “We look forward to sharing the ride with our customers as we count down to the big race at Randwick on October 16.”
