Former Arrowfield Stud-shuttler Mikki Isle (Deep Impact-Star Isle, by Rock Of Gibraltar), a two-time Group 1 winner, recorded his second Australian winner when the Mark Newnham-trained Dragonstone (Mikki Isle-Quick's The World, by Shamardal) improved from his debut third on June 9, to break his maiden by just shy of a length at Warwick Farm. Passed in for $65,000 at the 2020 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the draft of Holbrook Thoroughbreds, the 2YO gelding appreciated the heavy track conditions to defeat Bjorn Baker's War Eternal (Pierro) with race favourite Clemenceau (Capitalist) over three lengths from the winner in third. Ridden by Josh Parr, second favourite Dragonstone settled in fourth position after jumping away from barrier six of eight, pulling himself towards the leaders as they headed into the home turn. Kicking clear with 200m to go to record victory, Dragonstone joins 2YO filly Oriental Princess as the two winners from 14 first crop southern hemisphere runners for the son of multiple Champion Sire Deep Impact (Sunday Silence).
