  • The Bostonian Calls In A Day

    Thursday, 12th August 2021

Successful in the Canterbury Stakes (1300m), Doomben Ten Thousand (1200m), and the Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m), all at Group 1 level, connections of The Bostonian (Jimmy Choux-Keepa Cheval, by Keeper) have been forced to retire the $1.8m earner. Out due to a fetlock injury sustained in the Gr1 Winx Stakes in August last year, recent x-rays of the 7YO have indicated that, unfortunately, there is no guarantee moving forward with his possible return to the track. "He owes us absolutely nothing and after discussions with David (breeder/owner), and with the vet's concerns, we decided to retire him," the gelding's trainer Tony Pike said. "It's a shame, but it was an issue that had been there for a while and progressively got worse. He is a sound and happy horse at the moment but there was a risk that if he carried on racing at that level there was a chance of a pretty serious injury on the racetrack." A winner of 10 of his 24 starts, with wins in both Australia and his homeland of New Zealand, one of his most memorable victories was his stunning win over Godolphin's Savatiano (Street Cry) in the Gr1 Canterbury Stakes when ridden by Nash Rawiller.
