  • Gold Cup First Up for Dashing Willoughby

    Friday, 3rd September 2021

Nominated for both Friday's Listed Wyong Gold Cup (2100m) and Saturday's Gr2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Randwick, the money that has arrived to date suggests that the Chris Waller trained Dashing Willoughby (Nathaniel-Miss Dashwood, by Dylan Thomas) will be seen at Wyong, where he is the equal race favourite. With two wins and a second place from three first up runs, the import will be aiming to kick off his Cups campaign on a positive note. Recording two very encouraging barrier trial efforts since a decent spell, the Go Bloodstock Australia and partners-raced 6YO has only had two starts in Australia, finishing down the field in the 2020 Gr1 Caulfield Cup and Gr1 Melbourne Cup. Sharing favouritism with the Matthew Dunn-trained Laure Me In (Ad Valorem-Laurelling, by Highest Honor), a last start winner over 2000m, the Jason Collet-ridden gelding has the current form, and the miles in his legs to prove extremely hard to beat, while the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Perfect Radiance (Snitzel-Altair's Glow, by Encosta de Lago) is a mare in form, winning her past two starts and, in typical fashion for the stable, the mare is sure to be in the race for a long way.
