  • Prince of Arran Firmly on Cups Path

    Friday, 3rd September 2021

With three placed performances in three attempts in the Gr1 Melbourne Cup (3200m), trainer Charlie Fellowes has given his best indication yet that Prince Of Arran (Shirocco-Storming Sioux, by Storming Home) will contest his fourth consecutive Cup come November. With the connections of European runners now forced to undertake a stringent testing regime to ensure the soundness of their horse before travelling to Australia, Fellowes spoke to Sky Sports and highlighted that many of those tests have now been conducted on Price Of Arran. "He's had to go through a huge amount of testing," Fellowes told Sky Sports. "He's had two different sets of MRI scans, he then had to go in for a bone scan, so that was three separate visits to the hospital; we couldn't do any of that in the yard. Along with checks by BHA vets, X-rays being sent over to Australia, trot ups being sent over to Australia, scope reports being sent over to Australia, so he's been through an awful lot, but he's an 8YO (Northern Hemisphere), he's been through considerably more in his career and he's taken it like a pro to be honest."
