  • Home Track Advantage for Great News

    Friday, 3rd September 2021

The Kim Waugh-trained Great News (Uncle Mo-Wonderful News, by Clang) looks the one to beat in today's Listed Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m) on her home track at Wyong racecourse. Returning from a spell last start with a stunning second, beaten less than a half-length by the Joe Pride-trained Fituese (Deep Field) in the Gr3 Toy Show (1100m) at Randwick, the 5YO mare is likely to jump as the race favourite in an attempt to record her maiden stakes victory. In the large field of 15 mares, Josh Parr will take over from last start jockey Regan Bayliss, and will need to be at his best on the five-time-winning mare as to navigate her from her wide gate of barrier 14. The John Thompson-trained More Prophets (Smart Missile-Set to Skelter, by Reset), an impressive last start winner at Randwick, currently sits as the second favourite and with James McDonald in the saddle, the Bell River Thoroughbreds bred and part-owned 5YO also looks a solid chance. The Chris Waller stable will saddle up a pair of mares by Arrowfield Stud's multiple Champion Sire Snitzel: Starla (Snitzel-Houston Benefactor, by Encosta de Lago) and Vitesse (Snitzel-Sananda, by Anabaa), both recent winners, and both capable of causing a surprise at good odds.
